From the first moment
when we laid our hands on next-generation smartphone, we knew we were on something big here, really big. Studies over the last few years have confirmed our predictions and it gets better with latest reports trickling in.
We are happy to read that smartphones made up approximately 40 percent of all phones sold in Q3 2012. Moreover, mobile data traffic doubled between Q3 2011 and Q3 2012, and is expected to grow 12 times between 2012 and 2018.

We went from happy to ecstatic when we came to know that mobile app usage shot up by 35 percent in 2012 when TV viewing remained the same and web browsing dipped a bit. (Flurry)
Every smartphone user is looking for more and better ways to engage with the small powerhouse in his palm. Mobile applications have become that connecting factor. But not all apps are successful in serving that purpose. Only when we overcome the challenges in making the user discover,
connect and stick to an app, we have a winning product in our hands.
WHAT makes our mobile application so appealing?
The very first question you app idea should answer is “Would it appeal to the users?”
The idea is to create something that either makes tasks easier for users or offers something uniquely compelling so that they can give it some of their valuable time. It all boils down to one thing – Did the user have a good, satisfying experience with our app?
A lot rides on the user interface and it can be very easy to mess it up. All successful apps require very few scrolls to get to its basic purpose.
Overzealous creation of functions ends up burdening the solution. Instead of dumping multi-functions on a single solution, work towards a task-focused app and you will end up with a simple, fluid design.
HOW would a user discover our mobile application?
Social network is a great way to create buzz about an app. Using social network profiles to introduce it, get it “liked”, “shared” or “followed” can be a few little steps. But what would get you going are reviews starting with some on mobile-related blogs that will definitely spike interest. App Store Optimization is also gaining ground with Apple and Google+ adopting newer ways to suggest best results for app searchers.
Then comes what we think is the most powerful crowd-puller – recommendations. A thumbs-up from a friend or any one-touch sharing can be that point from where your app shoots ahead.
HOW would our mobile application retain users?
User retention is a crucial factor for a successful app. Regular updates, tips, offers, give-aways are some
tools that can be employed to add freshness. Push notifications is the single point of contact between app developers and users. Acknowledging user achievement and informing about what lies ahead will sustain interest and increase user loyalty.
